This study examines the structural features of concluding sections in Qur’anic exegesis (tafsīr) works and explores their methodological and aesthetic functions as an integral component of exegetical discourse. The conclusion of a tafsīr work serves as a reflection of the exegete’s scholarly approach, intellectual priorities, and interpretive methodology. Despite its significance, this topic has received limited scholarly attention. Therefore, the study seeks to provide a comprehensive analysis of the components, patterns, and functions of tafsīr conclusions. Using a descriptive-analytical approach, the study collects and analyzes samples from tafsīr works produced from the earliest stages of exegetical writing until the end of the eighth century AH. The selected conclusions were examined to identify their structural elements, recurring themes, and distinctive characteristics. The findings reveal that conclusions appeared early in the history of Qur’anic exegesis and varied considerably in length and content, while some tafsīr works lacked conclusions altogether. The study demonstrates that these concluding sections perform several logical functions, including identifying sources, outlining methodological principles, specifying conditions of authorship, referring readers to other works, and documenting dates of composition and transmission. They also fulfill important aesthetic functions through the use of praise, prayers, supplications, formulaic expressions of closure, direct engagement with readers, and expressions of humility. The study concludes that the conclusion of a tafsīr work represents a concise summary of the exegete’s intellectual project and recommends further research on post-eighth-century tafsīr conclusions as a distinct field within Qur’anic studies.
